The lecture and workshop taught by architect Richard Sammons will cover the understanding and application of proportion in Architecture. Often invoked but rarely implemented, proportion can be a sound guide to rational and attractive decisions in any area of design. Topics covered will include:
Richard Sammons has a rich background in traditional period design and is an internationally recognized expert in the field of architectural proportion, having taught at The Prince of Wales’ Institute of Architecture in London, Pratt Institute in New York and The University of Notre Dame in Rome. His contributions include the foreword for the re-publication of the book ‘The Theory of Mouldings’ by C. Howard Walker, originally issued in 1926. He contributed to, ‘Get Your House Right’ with a foreword written by H.R.H. Prince of Wales. Mr. Sammons began his career in the office of David Anthony Easton in New York, where he worked for several years and is a founding director of The Institute of Classical Architecture & Classical America. Mr. Sammons was recently invited as a member of The Art Workers Guild. He also lectures throughout the world on foundations of Classical Architecture. He is the vice president of the firm, serving as chief designer.
