


The Addison Mizner Medal For Excellence in Classical and Traditional Architecture

CRITERIA
The Florida Chapter of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art is pleased to announce the first annual Addison Mizner Medal for Excellence in Classical and Traditional Architecture. The awards program is intended to celebrate individuals and design firms who excel in the advancement and promotion of the ideals of classicism and traditional design in architecture urbanism and the allied arts. The awards are named for Addison Mizner, the architect whose civic and domestic works defined the standards of excellence in composition and craftsmanship for classical and traditional design in the early years of urban development in Florida. Addison Mizner’s introduction of the Spanish Colonial and Mediterranean style left an indelible mark on the architecture and urban cultural history of Florida and, to this day, delights those who visit his buildings and urban places.
The awards will recognize built work in the following categories: Residential (under 5,000 ft²), Residential (over 5,000 ft²), Multi-Family Residential, Commercial, Institutional, Historic Preservation, Landscape Architecture, Interior Design, Renovation, Urbanism and Craftsmanship.
Eligibility
Any work, regardless of location, completed by members of the Florida Chapter of the ICAA is eligible for consideration. National and International members are eligible to submit projects built in Florida and the Caribbean. Projects must have been completed in the past ten years. Individuals and firms may join the Florida Chapter of the ICAA at any time by visiting www.flclassicist.org or www.classicist.org.
JURY
The jury consists of a jury chair and two other individuals and is composed of architects and academics recognized for their knowledge of and experience in classical and traditional architecture. Jury results will be announced on May 15th, 2012 in St Augustine, Florida and winning entries will be recognized at an evening ceremony held on Sept 29th 2012, in Palm Beach, Florida. The winning entries will be displayed on the ICAA Florida Chapter website (www.classicist.org) and published in Traditional Building.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Each entry should be submitted in a three-ring binder with end pockets. The entry form and submission fee should be enclosed in an unsealed envelope inserted into the front binder pocket. Nothing should be added to the binder that identifies the firm or individual making the submission. Entrants must include a prepaid return envelope inserted in the back pocket of the binder so the submission can be returned. The submission fee is $150 for the first submission and $100 for subsequent submissions. The binder should include a, two page Project Statement summarizing the theoretical and conceptual content of the project, composition and references as well as prominent features of the site materials and methods of construction project administration and any other information necessary to convey the significance of the submission to the jury. A maximum of six drawings and twenty photographs can be submitted. Each drawing and photograph should include a caption on the reverse side of the page explaining the image to the jury. Similar explanatory information and images should be provided for interior design and craftsmanship. A one page list of key products, materials, and suppliers as well as a one page list of key contractors, sub-contractors, and craftsmen and women must also be included. A power point file on a CD of the binder submission is also required and should be inserted in the front binder pocket.
